This week we will be learning about the letter R, numbers 0-20 and seasons. Report cards will go home on Friday. Our first presentations will occur Friday, January 26th. I am eager to hear about their favorite toy.

Due to the cold weather days last week the new homework folder will go home today! Each folder consists of skills that your child needs to master during kindergarten. Each week I will staple one page in their folder for them to work on throughout the week. I will test them over these skills on Thursday and return it home Friday with the new sheet.  Please return the homework folder no later than Thursday. Please do not stress over these! They are just a simple way for us to help keep you informed of what we are learning about. These folders can also be used to reinforce skills for many years to come.

It is crazy to think that we are already thinking about Valentine’s Day, but it will be here before you know it! This year we will be making Valentine bags in class so there is NO need to send a box for your child. I am asking that you send a box of Valentines for your child no later than February 12th. (I will be getting Valentines for anyone that has not sent them in by this date.)
Please do not address the valentines to a certain child, but do have your child sign his or her name. This will help me a great deal when it is time to deliver our cards. If you would like to send candy or a special treat for your child to give out, please let me know.

We will not be having a party. Instead we will be doing fun activities throughout the entire day. I will send out a sign out sheet for a few extra items we will need for our exciting day next week.

I am needing a class set of Mardi Gras beads for February 13th. If you would like to donate some please let me know!

This week we will be learning about Martin Luther King, the letter F and numbers 19 & 20.

We will starting take home folders this week. (THESE WILL GO HOME TUESDAY.)

Report cards will be going home next week and our first presentations are due next Friday.

The kids are becoming great readers and I am very excited about their progress! Please continue to be working on your child's "Take Home Reader."

We will also be really starting to work on their writing skills. Practicing sound spelling for different words will help their writing develop.

This week is going to be very fun and exciting. We will be celebrating our own "Noon" Years Eve. Where we will be counting down to 12:00 and having a small celebration. We will also be focusing on the letter "S"  and numbers 16 & 17.

I will be sending A LOT of information home this week. Here is an overview:
-Milk break will NOT be free anymore. It is 50 cents a day.
-We are starting January reading logs. Every time you and your child read together, they will color a picture on their log. When they color the entire page they will get a special surprise in class.
-Friday we are asking your child to wear a Super Hero shirt to go along with learning about the letter S. Please DO NOT buy anything for this day, as we will have other items available for your child to a be a Super Hero.
-We will begin doing presentations at the end of January. These presentations will allow your child to learn to prepare for an activity and work on speaking in front of others. Our first presentations will be over your child's favorite toy and will be due January 26th.
-Scholastics book order will be due by January 26th.
-Please continue helping your child with their Take Home Readers. It is extremely important to send these back to school in a timely manner.

Since it is our first week back from Christmas Break we will be really focusing on behaviors and routines. Please help me reinforce what is expected of your child at school.

Thank you for helping make this school year a major success!

Happy New Year!

I hope you and and your family had a very relaxing and exciting winter break. I loved every minute of mine, but am excited to be starting the remaining of the year with your sweet children!

I started this blog MANY years ago in hopes to keep parents updated about fun events and activities that we were doing in class. However, as you can see I failed miserably. With that being said I hope to update this more often in 2018. I will begin by using it strictly as a "newsletter" format and hope to slowly build into a site that you will be able to take a virtual trip through many of our exciting activities and be able to  interactively share your child's kindergarten year with them.

Thank you for being partners in your child's education. I look forward to seeing what this year has in store for us all.
